Rubrics & Exemplars
Brief Explanation/Research
The goal of summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of instruction by comparing it against a standard or benchmark. Below are rubrics and exemplars developed and used by Alberta Ed for the purpose of assessing student achievement against curricular outcomes. Formative assessment is part of the instructional cycle and informs teaching and learning. Rubrics and exemplars may be also be used for this purpose.
